When it comes to paying for college, every little bit helps. We invite SEFCU members to apply for one of our SEFCU scholarships.

Features & Benefits

Applications available fall 2019.

  • Criteria: academic performance, community activities, leadership positions, and an essay
  • Open to SEFCU members who are seniors in high school attending an accredited 2- or 4-year college*
  • Open to SEFCU members who are returning to an accredited 2- or 4-year college* for their sophomore, junior, or senior year
  • Open to SEFCU members pursuing their Master’s Degree in Nursing or the Social Sciences
  • Applicant must be the primary account holder on a SEFCU account

Smart Sense Scholarship

  • One-time award of $1,000
  • Awarded to high school seniors attending 2- or 4-year college in fall 2020
  • Applicants must have strong academic record and demonstrate commitment to community through volunteerism
  • Many winners selected

Robert Berroyer Memorial Scholarship

  • One-time award of $2,500
  • Awarded to one student graduating from La Salle Institute and planning to attend a 2- or 4-year college in fall 2020
  • Applicants must have strong academic record and demonstrate commitment to community through volunteerism
  • Established in memory of Robert Berroyer, former SEFCU Board Member

John Ilacqua Memorial Scholarship

  • One-time award of $2,500
  • Awarded to one high school senior planning to attend Siena College in fall 2020
  • Applicants must have strong academic record and demonstrate commitment to community through volunteerism
  • Established in memory of John Ilacqua, former SEFCU Board Member

Jean L. Myers Memorial Scholarship

  • One-time award of $2,500
  • Awarded to one high school senior graduating from Colonie Central High School and planning to attend a 2-or 4-year college in fall 2020
  • Applicants must have strong academic record and demonstrate commitment to community through volunteerism
  • Established in memory of Jean Myers, former SEFCU Board Member

Roma Intangible Lodge #215 SEFCU Smart Sense Scholarship

  • One-time award of $2,500
  • Awarded to one high school student of Italian heritage planning to attend a 2- or 4-year college in fall 2020
  • Applicants must have strong academic record and demonstrate commitment to community through volunteerism

Campus Connect Scholarship*

  • One-time award of $1,000
  • Awarded to a Campus Connect member entering his/her sophomore, junior, or senior year at an accredited 2- or 4-year college in fall 2020
  • Applicants must have strong academic record and demonstrate commitment to community through volunteerism
  • One scholarship will be awarded to a student at each of these schools: Rensselaer, Skidmore College, the University at Albany, the University of Buffalo
  • One additional scholarship will be awarded to a student attending any other 2- or 4-year college/university

Dr. Carmen M. Cornute Memorial Scholarship*

  • One-time award of $2,500
  • Applicant must be pursuing an advanced degree in Nursing or Social Sciences in an accredited program (advanced degree as defined by credentialing agency appropriate to the field of study)
  • Applicants must provide evidence of involvement in extracurricular, volunteer/community service and/or career-related activities
  • Established in memory of SEFCU Board Member Robert Cornute’s wife, Carmen
  • One winner selected

SEFCU reserves the right to not award any of the scholarships in any given year.
* SEFCU members already enrolled in an accredited program for an advanced degree are eligible for the Dr. Carmen M. Cornute Memorial Scholarship and students returning to Rensselaer, Skidmore College, the University at Albany, and the University at Buffalo. One additional Campus Connect scholarship will be awarded to a student at a college or university without a SEFCU branch.
