About SEFCU

What is a Credit Union?

Group of people icon

A credit union (like SEFCU) is a cooperative financial institution, owned and controlled by the people who use its services, called members.

group of people connected

Credit unions serve groups that share something in common, such as where they work, live, or worship.

Credit unions are not-for-profit, and unlike banks, they work to turn profits into great rates for their members.

You can rest easy knowing your money is safe here. Like all federal credit unions, SEFCU is chartered, regulated, and insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U.S. government agency created for just this purpose. Member accounts are insured up to at least $250,000, and up to $250,000 for IRA accounts.

I believe in the cooperative spirit where SEFCU is owned by the members it serves, and, importantly, SEFCU’s progressive agenda...for the communities we serve.’”
