SEFCU's Institute for Financial Well-Being was honored with the New York Credit Union Association's 2018 Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award, an award created to recognize model credit union efforts to provide personal finance education concepts and skills to individuals under age 18.
Standing out against other financial wellness programs, SEFCU's Institute for Financial Well-Being's interactive approach was recognized for demonstrating value, uniqueness, and containing content and activities aligned to both state and national educational learning standards. The Institute developed an advanced teaching approach to provide free financial education and has now proven their work will help members and community organizations to achieve personal economic stability and financial independence.
“Most students across the nation graduate from high school without any formal education in personal finances. This recognition is validation that SEFCU's Institute for Financial Well-Being is truly changing lives every day,” said SEFCU president and CEO Michael Castellana. “Through the dedicated efforts and vision of the Institute, SEFCU has created relatable programs aimed at teaching students positive financial habits that will help them become financially secure adults. Being recognized for this work is proof that SEFCU continues to deepen our engagement with local communities across the state and beyond.”
