Sonia Galan, Why I Care Employee Recipient

Sonia Galan Why I Care Employee Recipient

Like so many, Sonia wanted to make a difference in the lives  of others, but wasn’t sure where to start. After moving to  Broome County and beginning her career at SEFCU she was pleasantly surprised to be working for an employer who not only  encouraged her to volunteer, but supported her as she became  active in planning and coordinating major fundraising events.

Since her move to New York seven years ago, Sonia has been  active for a number of different non-profits, including the  American Heart Association, where she received the Volunteer  of the Year Award in 2014, Chris Thater Memorial Races, and  Toys for Tots, among others.

Sonia remembers when she recruited a brother and sister ages  four and six, to participate in the Heart Walk and recalls how  excited they were to volunteer. That’s the kind of impact she’s  hoping to make on others as they become part of the change that  makes a difference.
