School Banking Program FAQs

Who can bank at our school on bank days?
Students who have a SEFCU Savings account can participate in scheduled banking days.

How much is needed to open a school banking account?
SEFCU is committed to our school bankers and will get them started by depositing $1 into the student's new account. You can also open a Smart Sense Share Certificate with as little as $100.

How easily can students switch to SEFCU from another financial institution?
To make switching accounts as easy as possible, SEFCU will provide a simple switch form. Once your child's School Banking account is opened - print, complete, and send or bring the request to close the account form to your previous financial institution to close out the old account and have the funds transferred to your new SEFCU account!

How can SEFCU incorporate financial literacy programs at school?
To build on smart saving techniques, SEFCU's School Banking Program offers special financial literacy programs conducted right in the classroom. Teaching students the importance of saving and spending wisely, with an account that grows along with them, will set the stage for a positive financial future all the way into adulthood.

How are students eligible to become members?
Families are eligible for SEFCU membership in a number of ways including where they live, work, worship, volunteer, attend school, or because a family member is eligible for membership, or is already a SEFCU member. For a complete list of eligibility requirements, click here.

How can I become a volunteer at my child’s school?
Volunteers can be parents, grandparents, retired teachers, or teachers’ aides. All training materials are provided by SEFCU’s School Banking department. Banking is held once a week and should take less than an hour of your time. If you are interested in volunteering at your child’s school, please contact your school’s Banking Coordinator.
