SEFCU Supports Code Blue and Emergency Shelters

Giving back to our communities isn’t just something we talk about here at SEFCU; it’s a philosophy we live by. And many times, it’s the small things we all can do that really add up to make a huge impact – like Giving for Good!
While Punxsutawney Phil predicted we’ll have an early spring, there is still a desperate need for supplies and warm winter items at Code Blue and Emergency Shelters as many people continue to flock towards shelters and warming stations to escape the cold. Helping these types of organizations is vital to their continued support of those who need it most.

Thanks to Giving for Good donations, we were able to help in a big way!

$30,000 in supplies equals:

1,500+ Hat & Glove Sets
1,000 Pairs of Socks
500+ Adult Jackets
400+ Fleece Blankets
120+ Kid Jackets

Plus, hand warmers, lip balm, feminine hygiene products, sleeping cots, and winter boots!

The 11 organizations that received support for code blue and emergency efforts include: Samaritan Center Inc., Joseph's House & Shelter, Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, Shelters of Saratoga, Binghamton Rescue Mission, Compass House, Syracuse Rescue Mission, Unity House of Troy, City Mission of Schenectady, Gateway Longview, and Buffalo Rescue Mission.
Simply by donating $1 per month, totaling $12/year, turns into something that will make a huge difference for so many – especially during the cold winter months!
While reading about the impact we’ve made can give us all the warm fuzzies, hearing a first-hand account of the lives changed demonstrates the reality of what these gifts mean.

Jessica Stanis, executive director, Binghamton Rescue Mission, had this to say about our efforts, “On behalf of our clients and the staff at the Rescue Mission, I wanted to pass along a sincere THANK YOU!  We received the fleece blankets, gloves, coats etc… This will go a long way towards helping our clients throughout the year and we can’t thank you and SEFCU enough for your continuous generosity and support of the Rescue Mission. It’s truly heart-warming. I love all that SEFCU does in our community!”

So the next time you are talking about Giving for Good, or you see your monthly contribution on your statements, feel good knowing that the small things we do at SEFCU on a regular basis add up to make a tremendous impact on those we serve throughout our communities.
