SEFCU donated $25,000 in support of the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region’s (YWCA-GCR) Women in Transition Program (WIT). WIT provides 14 units of transitional housing for homeless, single women and women with children. Residents may stay for up to one year and are required to set goals, complete household chores, attend weekly mandatory meetings, and be engaged with at least two community service providers. The goal is for each woman to successfully transition into and maintain permanent housing.
The funds donated will help buy furniture and equipment for the transitional housing units in the building, nine of which are designed to accommodate families. SEFCU will continue to support WIT and YWCA-GCR in May. A project is underway to update and refresh the Women in Transition common spaces including the lounge, playroom, and dining spaces.
YWCA-GCR is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
