Leah Lamoureux, Why I Care Employee Recipient

Although she joined SEFCU a little more than a year ago, it didn’t take Leah Lamoureux long to become involved in SEFCU’s community and volunteer activities. Jumping right in and joining SEFCU’s CycleNation and Heart Walk teams to benefit the Heart Association, participating in Stand to Honor, an event that remembers fallen soldiers, and the Toys for Tots Convoy of Hope, Leah accomplished a lot in her first year at the credit union, but she says one of her favorite volunteer memories took place this past holiday season.

As part of SEFCU’s Holiday Sharing Program where the credit union adopts and shops for more than 100 families, Leah was asked to shop for 15 teenage boys who were staying at Hope House in Albany, NY. Some of these boys arrived at Hope House with nothing more than the clothes they were wearing. Leah was determined to make sure they knew they were thought of during the holiday season so she memorized their names, clothing sizes, and their needs and wants on the list she received. She spent Thanksgiving night and Black Friday scouring the stores for the best deals so she could maximize her budget and get as many items as possible for the boys. After the boys received their gifts an administrator from Hope House emailed Leah to thank her for her efforts and to let her know she made a difference in the lives of those 15 boys. “Participating in these various SEFCU events really opened my eyes to the impact volunteering can have,” said Leah.
