Jerry Shaul, Why I Care Employee Recipient

Jerry Shaul Employee Recipient

A SEFCU employee for nearly 12 years, Jerry Shaul is always ready to answer the volunteer call, being especially supportive of SEFCU-sponsored events and causes. A husband and father to three daughters, he feels fortunate to have a healthy family and volunteering is his way to give back to others.

As a volunteer for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for much of the 90s, Jerry recalls having a meaningful conversation with a parent at the Jell-O slide event (where participants slide into thousands of gallons of Jell-O) which made him realize the impact he is having on others. The mother thanked him for helping raise money for the organization and said one of her children slid in that year’s event for the first time after receiving a clean bill of health after battling the disease for several years, giving perspective and meaning to the work he was doing.

Currently, Jerry donates his time to a number of other events including the SEFCU Labor Day 5k, SEFCU Adopt-A-Family program, Schenectady’s Weekend Backpack Program, and Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids’ Sake. He is also a member of SEFCU’s Renovate That! team where participants use their carpentry, decorating, and design skills to renovate a room or space at a nonprofit in the community.
