With cold weather here, it can be a challenge for many homeless individuals looking for shelter – especially as Code Blue alerts are issued around the state. Thanks to the generosity of SEFCU members contributing to Giving for Good, SEFCU could jump in to help!

What is a Code Blue Alert?
Code Blue is a cold-weather program that provides homeless individuals access to emergency drop-in shelters during extremely cold nights. When the temperature reaches 32 degrees or less, a Code Blue alert will be issued – and when temperatures plummet below the 10 - degree mark, the alert is elevated to a Code Blue Extreme. So many people rely on Code Blue shelters for crucial services, including emergency shelter, hot meals, and access to case management resources.
This winter, Giving for Good helped provide more than $60,000 in emergency supplies to 17 homeless and family crisis shelters across the state.

$60,000 in supplies equals:

1,200 fleece blankets  2,500 warm socks
2,400 winter hats 800 pieces of underwear/Long Johns
600 winter gloves 2,480 hand warmers
500 winter coats  2,520 lip balms

In addition, bath towels, hand lotion, sanitizer, disposable masks, disinfectant spray/wipes, toilet paper, tissues, diapers, and many other personal care items were also purchased and donated.
