Nearly 20 years ago SEFCU member Dave Falso turned his love of the Christmas season into a fundraiser that would benefit children battling life-threatening illnesses. He recalls Kristy Pollack, a young girl he knew well who was extremely ill, and made the decision to expand the holiday lighting display outside his home into a major fundraiser for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
After purchasing a parcel of land near his home, Dave teamed up with Make-A-Wish Foundation and began charging admission for the extravagant light display he coordinated and named in honor of his young friend, the Kristy Pollack Memorial Light Show.
Now in its 18th season, Dave still feels excitement when the switch is flipped and the lights come on for the first time each year, but he is most proud that the event raises funds that directly benefit Make-A-Wish, providing trips, shopping sprees, and other once-in-a-lifetime experiences to children who are battling illnesses. In addition to generously donating his time to coordinating and setting up the Kristy Pollack Memorial Light Show, Dave also volunteers to tow the Make-A-Wish holiday train in parades throughout the Capital Region.
