On March 4th, SEFCU’s community team delivered a $10,000 grant to the Shelters of Saratoga (SOS), an organization that offers a full-continuum of support to those in Saratoga County experiencing homelessness. SOS is taking strides toward providing these individuals with the necessary resources to assist them in finding employment, permanent housing and ultimately building brighter futures for themselves. Between their case managed shelters, Code Blue, Homeless Street Outreach, Drop-in Shelter and affordable apartments, SOS is able to lend a hand to about 850 people per year who have little access to resources.
“This contribution is specifically being used for the guests of the case managed shelters on Walworth Street,” said Director of Development and Marketing Rosemary Riedhammer. These shelters provide a safe, home-like environment to give house guests the opportunity to establish their goals and the support to reach them. Here, they have access to basic life necessities as well as support services specific to their needs, including mental health counseling, or drug and alcohol rehabilitation services. House guests are expected to do chores, volunteer, meet with their case managers twice weekly, participate in weekly house meetings and actively explore permanent employment and housing opportunities. These responsibilities are essential in the journey to continued success following the “graduation” from this program.
In partnering with the Shelters of Saratoga, SEFCU is not only assisting homeless individuals through their current hardships, but providing them with the necessary resources to create an independent and stable life. “It is your generosity and support that makes our work possible,” stated Executive Director Karen Gregory in a thank you note to SEFCU’s community team.
