The culture in Buffalo, NY has always embodied volunteerism and giving back to their communities. It is their helpful nature that gained Buffalo the mantra of “City of Good Neighbors.” When the city was shaken by a tragedy in May, SEFCU’s Buffalo branches were able to wrap their arms around their community by simply asking, “how can we help?”
The desire to help led them to the Buffalo non-profit Rooted in Love, Inc. (RIL). RIL provides those in the Western New York community who are homeless, less fortunate, or find themselves in need from time to time, with fresh produce, nonperishable food items, and personal care hygiene items free of cost.
In an amazing display of strength, courage, and community, every SEFCU employee from Buffalo branches participated in shopping, organizing, and dropping off car loads of non-perishable items and paper goods to help their community in a time of great need.
“It was truly incredible to see our branches and SEFCU rally as a team for the greater good in our community. It was truly a team effort,” said Heather Lashway, Employee Performance Leader. “To personally see how our team wrapped their arms around each other and our local communities during a tough time is truly remarkable. It was wonderful to see our community coming together to support one another.”
The teams in Buffalo have made it clear they will continue to impact change in their community by delivering much-need items throughout the summer. Another massive supply of personal care items and basic household needs are in route courtesy of SEFCU’s Summer Essentials campaign which is possible because of SEFCU’s Giving for Good program!
SEFCU also purchased Buffalo Strong t-shirts for Buffalo branch employees to wear every Friday in June. The shirts were sold at a local sporting goods store with benefits going to the Buffalo Community Fridge.
