5klogo2015We’re celebrating SEFCU’s 27th Annual Labor Day 5k race this year and you can help make the event special for a Capital Region non-profit organization! A company-wide employee vote selected five organizations that provide invaluable programs and services to people in need. And, now it’s your turn. Collectively, you will decide which non-profit from the list below will receive $15,000. Vote between today and August 28 and the non-profit with the most votes will be awarded $15,000 at the race on Labor Day. The non-profit with the second highest number of votes will receive $3,000 and third place will receive $2,000.

Operation Adopt a Soldier: Operation Adopt a Soldier was founded in February of 2003. Their goal is to make sure every soldier receives care packages and letters to remind them that those at home appreciate their sacrifice. Tens of thousands of care packages are sent annually.

Saratoga WarHorse: A non-profit organization that assists veterans who are suffering from psychological wounds by providing a confidential, peer-to-peer, action based equine-assisted experience that initiates immediate and empowering changes, thanks to horses.

STRIDE Adaptive Sports - Wounded Warrior programs: Serving the military veteran population since 2006, STRIDE's Wounded Warrior programs provide integrated adaptive sport and recreation activities to men and women of the armed forces injured in combat.

The Albany Housing Coalition: On any given day, the Albany Housing Coalition provides a safe haven for 50+ veterans. Their housing includes a secure transitional residence, independent transitional residence and permanent housing. They also provide section 8 housing vouchers to 31 people who live in private apartments throughout the community.

Veterans Miracle Center (VMC): VMC is a place for veterans and activity-duty military personnel, as well as their immediate families to receive daily life necessities absolutely free. The organization’s mission is to offer military men and women real solutions that will enhance their lives. It's their mission to provide them with hope, and let them know that their nation is forever grateful.
