Run or bike to stop DWI
SEFCU is sponsoring the 26th annual Chris Thater Memorial to be held August 29 – 30 at Recreation Park, in Binghamton. This cycling and running event is held by the Broome County Stop DWI Program each year to honor the life of Chris Thater, a young man killed by a drunk driver.
This year the event will feature $65,000 in cash and prizes, an outdoor expo, and a music festival featuring 10 bands. To learn more, or to register, visit http://bcstopdwi.com/bcstopdwi.
Teach your children well
Summer is the season of barbecues, beaches…and summer jobs. For many teens, summer jobs represent the first taste of earning their own money. The first experience is a great time to form good habits like tracking spending, setting goals, creating a budget and responsibly maintaining a checking account.
This summer, SEFCU is offering the Teen Financial Literacy series in both the Capital Region and Binghamton to help the next generation become more financially fit. The topics in the series include:
- Teens and Budgeting
- Teens and Checking
- Teens and Credit
Do you know teenagers who would benefit from one of these free seminars? Have them register online today!

The SEFCU Foundation is always hard at work improving the communities where we live. Take a minute to check out what the Foundation has been up to lately!
The Lark Drive Project
Recently, SEFCU teamed up with the YMCA of the Capital Region to brighten up the grounds of the Lark Drive Park. Thanks to the financial support of the SEFCU Foundation and the volunteer hours of SEFCU employees, the park is ready for the summer season, providing area youth with a safe place to play this year.

Monopoly® Tournament
The SEFCU Foundation held another successful Monopoly Tournament last month at the Albany Country Club. More than 200 people participated in the event, which raised $18,000 for the Center for Disability Services!
Click here to see the WXXA Fox 23 news story covering the event.
Foundation Backpack Program
In keeping with the SEFCU mission to help the youth in our service areas, the SEFCU Foundation has committed to donate over 1,000 new backpacks to children in need. If you know a school or non-profit that needs new backpacks, e-mail Jolene Hindes at jhindes@sefcu.com.
