What can we all do?
Would you like to become more eco-friendly? Here are a few simple ways to begin:
  • Reduce, re-use, recycle and compost
    • Use re-usable containers and bags rather than disposable ones.
    • Reusing packaging material saves more energy than recycling.
    • A large percentage of waste is from yards and kitchens. This can be reduced by composting.
    • Recycle old cell phones. "Recycling all of the 100 million cell phones ready for end-of-life management in the U.S. would save enough energy to power more than 194,000 U.S. households with electricity for one year." (Visit http://www.epa.gov for more information).
  • When printing, print eco-friendly
    • Use both sides of paper
    • Use scrap paper when possible
    • Use recycled paper
  • Replace standard light bulbs with new compact fluorescent bulbs
    • Compact fluorescent bulbs save energy and money too!
    • Be sure to dispose of the bulbs through an appropriate recycling center.
  • Dispose of old paint, chemicals, and oil properly
    • Don't dispose batteries, antifreeze, paint, motor oil, or chemicals in the trash. Use proper toxic disposal sites.
  • Carpool, bike and use public transportation when possible
    • Reduce air pollutants by carpooling and decreasing the amount of vehicles going the same direction.
    • Consider biking. It will save you money, make you more fit, and reduce your carbon footprint on the world.
