Ready to switch to free SEFCU checking? We make it easy for you. Here’s how!
1. Collect your account statements, including those for your current checking account and any accounts you use for automatic payments.
2. Balance your existing account. Then close it after all outstanding checks have cleared.
3. Open your SEFCU checking account. If you are already a SEFCU member, simply complete our account opening form. Then bring it in or mail it to us. We will order 40 complimentary checks for you to use until your first box of checks arrives. Within 10 business days, you should receive your first order of checks and your SEFCU Visa® Check Card if you have requested one.
4. If you currently have direct deposit, complete a Direct Deposit Change Notice and submit it to your employer to authorize direct deposit into your new SEFCU account.
5. If you use your current checking account to make automatic payments, complete our Automatic Payment/Debit Change Notice. Do you make more than one automatic payment each month? Simply print as many copies of the change notice form as you need, and submit one to each of the companies that electronically debit payments from your current account.
6. When the statement on your previous checking account shows no activity for a full month (except fees), complete the switch form and mail it to your former financial institution to formally close your account.
